چکیده

CAN J ANESTH 54: 1 www.cja-jca.org January, 2007 by some authors that the tip of the cannula should be withdrawn outside the lumen of the vein and sited subcutaneously to avoid the rare complication of air embolism.4 It has also been suggested that this method will protect the catheter from kinking. The circumstances of this case challenge that assumption, and suggest that it may be preferable to leave the cannula inside the vein during catheter insertion. Knotting of a PICC is a potential complication which one must consider whenever there is difficulty in advancing the catheter, or when there is difficulty in removing the stylet. When this complication is suspected, the course of the catheter should be confirmed radiologically, and the catheter removed surgically, as excessive traction on the catheter could lead to further complications.

[Serotonin syndrome following methylene blue infusion during parathyroidectomy: a case report and literature review].

PURPOSE To report a case of autonomic, neurological and neuromuscular instability following methylene blue infusion for parathyroidectomy; to advance the argument for a diagnosis of serotonin syndrome; and to consider this diagnosis in previous, unexplained reports of adverse reactions amongst patients undergoing parathyroidectomy using methylene blue. CLINICAL FEATURES Methylene blue was adm...

Methylene Blue For Post-Cardioplumonary Bypass Vasoplegic Syndrome

First, in the author’s study methylene blue was administered in a dose of 1–2 mg/kg bolus over 10 min and the median time until a maximum hemodynamic response was 2 h after drug administration. Out of 88 patients who received methylene blue, only 39 (44.3%) showed a positive hemodynamic response to the drug. We believe that if the bolus of methylene blue was followed by a continuous infusion of...

Removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution using nano-TiO2/UV process: Optimization by response surface methodology

This work describes the photocatalytic removal of methylene blue from aqueous solution by titanium dioxide nanoparticles under ultraviolet irradiation in a batch system. The effect of operational parameters such as irradiation time, nano titanium dioxide dosage, pH and initial methylene blue concentration were analyzed and optimized by response surface methodology in the nano titanium dioxide/u...

Minimally invasive radioguided parathyroidectomy: Postoperative patient satisfaction survey

Introduction: Minimally invasive radioguided parathyroidectomy (MIRP) combines technetium Sestamibi scan, intraoperative gamma probe, methylene blue dye, and measurement of circulating parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. While MIRP is a well-established approach to neck exploration for hyperparathyroidism, there is little published data about patient satisfaction following this type of surgery. M...

Hemodynamic and vascular endothelium function studies in healthy pigs after intravenous bolus infusion of methylene blue.

OBJECTIVE Clinical benefit of methylene blue (MB) treating NO-induced vasoplegia has been reported in sepsis, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in cardiac surgery and anaphylactic shock, but its safety is sometimes questioned, mainly regarding its hemodynamic effects and the possibility of causing endothelium dysfunction. To examine the nitric oxide plasma levels and cardiovascular...
